Pharmaceutical Manufacturing plant to be established

A new Pharmaceutical Manufacturing plant is planned to be constructed.

Its purpose is to increase the production of pharmaceuticals.
The new plant will come up under loan facilities extended by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation has launched a series of programmes for the production of drugs on the instructions of Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
The Health Ministry said that three Japanese Companies have applied for the building of the new Manufacturing Plant. Cabinet sanction will be sought for the selection of a suitable firm. The Health Ministry is spending a sum of more than 55 Billion Rupees annually for drugs and medical supplies. Around 12,100 varieties of drugs are being purchased from these funds.
The Ministry is of the view that a colossal sum of foreign exchange could be saved through the manufacture of drugs locally.
