Sri Lanka's first fully-pledged hospital for animals

Sri Lanka's first fully fledged Veterinary Hospital has been opened at the Giritale Wildlife Veterinary Unit.

The opening of the Hospital built at a cost of Rs. 17 million took place under the patronage of Secretary to the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Wildlife R.M.D.B. Meegasmulla, state TV reported.

The Friends of Elephant Organization of the Netherlands had borne the total expenditure on the construction of the hospital. Its President Rob Pebber joined the opening ceremony.

A scanning machine, an X-ray machine and a medical laboratory needed to mete out treatment to animals have been installed at the Hospital.
