Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army during his visit to the Wanni on Sunday (25) joined a ceremony, organized at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) in relation to the opening of its new two-storied SFHQ-W office complex.
At the invitation of Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W), the Commander amidst religious observances and 'Seth Pirith' warmed the new office complex soon after unveiling a special plaque to the same effect.
During his stay in the complex, the Commander was also invited by the Wanni Commander to inaugurate the newly-built Other Rankers’ Mess, a long-felt facility in the Headquarters premises.
Built by the Corps of Engineer Service (CES) troops, attached to the 2 CES, the new SFHQ-W office complex houses a conference hall, office rooms for staff officers plus a new computer section and provides facilities for seminars and meetings.
The visiting Commander of the Army soon after the inauguration of the new building complex interacted with all those who sweated to erect it at a separate location and shared a couple of views and pleasantries with them while inquiring into their well-being.
On request, Lieutenant General Senanayake afterwards posed for a group photograph adding eternal memories to his visit to the SFHQ-W in his capacity as the Army Chief.
A few minutes later, the Commander spoke to the gathering inside the new Other Rankers’ mess and highlighted the importance of maintaining strict discipline. The Commander left his signature in the SFHQ-W Visitors’ Book before he joined All Ranks for refreshments.
