Drought increase price of coconuts

The price of coconuts has increased due to the,drought, which prevailed in the country.


Minister of Sports and Co-cabinet spokesman Dayasiri Jayasekera answering a question posed by journalists at the weekly cabinet press conference held today (27th Sept.) at the Department of Government Information said that 200,000 coconut trees were destroyed in his electorate due to the drought.

Once a tree is destroyed it takes 45 months to get a harvest.

The prevailing high price of coconuts was discussed at the cabinet meeting yesterday and he said that the Plantation Ministry is taking steps to solve this situation.
