'Exercise Cormorant Strike - 2017' in September

Exercise Cormorant Strike VIII- 2017', the annual Field Training Exercise (FTX) organized by the Sri Lanka Army for the 8th consecutive year will commence on 3rd September 2017. The Exercise will be conducted in the Eastern Province with the participation of 2675 Army, Navy and Air Force troops, including 62 foreign military participants and observers.

 

2108 Army personnel including Commandos, Special Forces and Mechanized Infantry Regiment troops, 370 Naval and 197 Air Force personnel will take part in this year's Exercise. 62 foreign participants and observers from Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Russia, USA, Brazil, Sudan, Iraq, Israel, Oman, Turkey, Iran and Kenya have also confirmed their participation for the Exercise.

 

Cormorant Strike, initiated by SL Army with the participation of the Navy and Air Force has been designed as a move to develop decision-making capabilities of young Officers and also to train them to understand operability of non-state actors, air and sea operations, threats of cyber attacks and etc.

 

This year's Exercise is aimed at training participants on patrolling, infiltration/ ex-filtration, reconnaissance and surveillance, combat tracking, link-ups, caches, demolitions, raids, ambushes, cut-off and blocks, rescue missions, urban fighting and disaster relief missions. The Exercise will end on 24 September (2017) with a joint display on the previous day.
