President Maithripala Sirisena has told the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya that necessary measures will be taken to reconvene the parliament and it will be announced in due course.
A special discussion was held between the President and the Speaker at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (31).
The cordial meeting between the President and the Speaker was held for 80 minutes, stated the Office of the Speaker.
Reportedly, the Speaker has called on the President to reconvene the parliament forthwith taking into consideration the current political situation of the country.
Accordingly, the President has responded that he would consider the request of the Speaker and announce his decision in this regard in due course.
Meanwhile, the President has called on the Speaker to provide required facilities for the new Prime Minister and the government, to which the Speaker has agreed.
